Taking up new challenges as a translator

Taking up new challenges as a translator

AGA, Association of Graphic Designers from Asturias, has recently launched its brand new magazine in Oviedo, Northern Spain. When I opened my complimentary copy, which I got in the post last week, I was filled with excitement. Why, you may wonder? Simply because the English translation that can be found at the back of the magazine is mine. Yes, it is my baby and, like most mums, I am rather excited by the new arrival. I shall explain:

  1. This is my first published translation into English, though by no means my first translation into the language.
  2. It is a huge step forward for me and one that I am, naturally, anxious about. The words will remain, potential inaccuracies and all.
  3. I have translated many things into English before -both from Spanish and from Italian- and, having always received positive feedback or no feedback at all -silence gives consent, right?-, I decided to move things up a level. Before that moment, a good part of my translations had either been published on the web, printed for internal use within an organization or else delivered at training courses, international conferences, etc.
  4. I take the proofreading process seriously and feel confident in guaranteeing my clients a high-quality translation.

However, mistakes can happen: any errors are mine and mine alone. If you are interested in graphic design, contact AGA at www.aga-asturias.org to order a copy of the magazine. It is a high-quality publication and you are bound to enjoy even flicking through it. Should you spot anything that jars in the English translation, please let me know. I will welcome any comments or questions.
